The Triathlon's back on!!!!!

Monday, February 16, 2009

For any who don't know, the Gold Nugget Triathlon is a race for women that has been held in Anchorage for like 26 years. But this year, the pool is being renovated, so it was canceled. Then, they found a new location and now it will be held in Chugiak. So it's back on.

Last August, while on a fishing trip with 13 other wives related to the company my husband works for, a fishing trip that included lots of jello shots (jello made with vodka) some wine, a few more jello shots and even just a little food, the subject of the Gold Nugget came up. Due to some peer pressure exerted after the consumption of a few more jello shots, I agreed out loud in front of God and everybody that I could do the triathlon with Louise and Brooke, sure, no problem.

This time last year I weighed over 285 lbs and hadn't run in 15 years or more. But after losing my first 25 lbs I was feeling cocky and invincible. Now, I need to buckle down and get with some training.

When I heard the race was canceled I slacked off the training and got comfortable with my slow workout schedule. Now I have 12 weeks to train!!!

My little brother is a swim coach so emailed him for a workout regime for the pool. Today I left a message for Jeremy, ther personal trainer at the gym, to get a workout program for the bike and running part of the race.

Today I rode a bike for 20 minutes, 4.65 miles. Then got on the treadmill and walked 3.1 miles (5K) in about 52 minutes. That is my baseline, I will need to improve but it's a start.

The race will be:

300 yd "Snake Swim"
9 mile bike
3.1 mile run (5k)

Wish me luck.
