Whose bright idea was this again?

DH and I had our fitness assessment today, and it was an all out shock to the system. That's what I get for joining a fancy health club instead of a two bit gym that just gives you a membership card and points you in the general direction of the exercise equipment.
It wasn't good. My body fat percentage was a staggering 45.6% Granted, I haven't been working out much for the past five years and I was expecting something along the lines of 35 to 40 percent. But 45.6? That means almost half my body is fat. Consequently I have to lose 50 pounds of body fat. Fifty freaking pounds!!! They put me down for roughly 1540 calories a day. DH on the other hand, who weighed in at 378 pounds and needs to lose about 130 initially, gets to eat twice that. 3500 some calories. So they are putting us on an eating plan, and I am to eat half of his portion size. He needs to lose three times as much but yet I get to eat only half of what he eats. How is that fair?
The fitness thing itself was equally shocking. I could do 18 girl push-ups (from the knees, as opposed to with legs stretched out), but only 3 chin lifts, and no sit-ups at all. Apparently the abdominal exercises the way I learned them (and can do like 120 of) are the wrong kind. I have to be able to go from lying flat on my back, legs bent at the knees and my fingers at my temples, to sitting upright. No way in hell could I do that. Extremely disappointing. DH managed 15 of those! Then again he couldn't manage even one push-up, so I guess we're even in that department.
I didn't have high self esteem going in. But by the time we left I felt like a complete loser with an appalling eating pattern (which I thought was actually pretty good), no physical condition to speak of, and twice as much body fat as I should have.
I hope it gets better after this, because right now I feel about as low as I can get.

Everyone needs to start somewhere.Your body needs to build endurance. I can't say for sure that i can do what you did. I also need to lose about 50lbs. Good luck with your weight loss goals.
