Couch to 5K: It's working!

Just a quick update to let you know that I have been following the Couch to 5K program to train myself to run, and it's working. I just started the 3rd week (yes, I know it's Thursday), and I was able to run for 3 minutes at a time. I would have found it difficult to believe just a couple of weeks ago. I don't run fast, because I have discovered that at a given speed, jogging raises my heart rate more than walking does. (If I only walk, I can go as fast as 4.2 miles per hour without exceeding my target heart rate; If I jog, I have to go a little slower, but that's fine. ) So far I am just doing it on a treadmill because it has been VERY cold here in D.C., but eventually I will get outside again. Alternating walking and jogging also helps to break up the monotony of a treadmill workout. A little at a time, I will learn to run longer, and eventually faster.
