That Scale...

Yesterday, I read an SP blog about the scale...to give it up or not. It got me to thinking seriously about my relationship with the scale, which has become fairly unhealthy lately. I seem to be stuck playing with the same 2 or 3 pounds, which makes very little sense considering my considerable weight, my now 2-month old dedication to both cardio and strength training and my more good days than bad days with regard to my eating habits. Rightly or wrongly, I think this has to do with getting on the scale daily, sometimes even more than daily, expecting to see immediate movement. It seems that my frustration level with seeing no weight loss after a couple of particularly good days translates into that old nemisis, emotional eating out of sheer anger, all too often. Now, intellectually I know that the scale is only one of many, many ways there is to measure progress on this journey, and I do see progress in many of the other ways (my clothes fit better, Ive lost inches, I feel better, I exercise almost every day and feel great about it, well, I don't sleep so well, but I'd call that one of the gifts of perimenopause). But emotionally, to me, that darn scale is the god of all measuring tools. Well, let it be heard in this time and place that from this day forward, I renounce the power of the scale over me!!!

I will get on it once a week, on Wednesday mornings (for no other reason than I came to this decision between reading the blog yesterday and this morning).

So it is written, so it shall be....

    Good for you! Everyone is different, so figuring out that a weekly weighing will keep you sane is great progress. I like to weigh daily, but I don't mind the small fluctuations. Then again, I like sciency things, so my love of all things measurable keeps ME sane. LOL.

    Once a week works for me. I would go crazy if I had to think about it every day. Sometimes I even forget my weekly weigh in!

    I used to be a daily person myself (can be very discouraging) when I was younger, but after reading so many articles on this issue, I believe once a week is the best (helps average better regarding the sodium issues and the TOM issues most women have). I believe the scale is still an import way to measure your progress/status. Clothes manufacturers as you know are not consistent with their sizing, I myself have a clothes range of 6 to 10, so if I would use clothes sizing to measure, I would go insane!!!
