Slow Beginning

Well, I've been working out since January 5th and I started tracking my nutrition on January 8th. My first few workouts were very light - - kind of an introduction back into the world of fitness. I worked out to a Prevention DVD that has a 15 minute walking workout. I did that DVD for two days, January 5th and 7th. After that, I graduated to Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds DVD on Thursday, January 8th. The one I have has a 3-mile challenge and a 4-mile challenge and I've been able to do both, I'm happy to report! I've done the Leslie Sansone DVD 11 times total. I've also been to the gym once and did the elliptical machine for about 30 minutes. I have seen improvements in my endurance and in my strength. When I first started doing the walking DVD's, I could barely do all of the knee lifts and the side to side steps hurt my hips. Now, I feel very strong doing her workout and have even found myself adding in jumps and trying to challenge myself during her workout. I'm at the point where I think I'd like to find another DVD to try to challenge myself with.

Strength training I haven't been as good at doing as I have cardio. I'm good about doing upper body exercises with hand weights. What I've noticed I avoid is any core work or lower body work. Apparently I really dislike those. So, my goal is to find some lower body and core strength training exercises that I like and will actually do.

My overall physical goal is to see more strength and endurance improvements. This will only happen if I commit myself to challenge my muscles on a regular basis. So, that's my overall fitness goal.

As for the nutrition end of things, I'm still working out the kinks. I'm a bit frustrated because the only fish I can find in the stores around here all have the warning "product of China" and I will not eat fish from China. I even tried Bumblebee's vacuum packed salmon and it was terrible. So, I'm still looking for 'tried and true' healthy meals that I can prepare. Also, over the holiday weekend (MLK) I was out of town celebrating my brother-in-laws 40th birthday. And, yes, over the course of the weekend I exceeded my calorie requirements on a couple of days. I haven't beaten myself up about it though. I just looked at it as he only turns 40 once and I'm going to have fun and get back to the program as soon as I can.

I have not, as of yet, recorded any weight loss. I've found that my weight fluctuates about 6 pounds throughout the day. Also, my clothes are all fitting the same. I am a little frustrated, but I keep reminding myself that this is a journey and everything I have done so far has, indeed, been improving my health. I just have to keep at it and the weight loss will come.

So, that's this weeks update. I'm looking forward to what I'll have to report next week! Hopefully, I'll be able to say I'm even stronger!

    I'd suggest Turbo Jam dvds they are great! They are cardio but everything also works your legs and core and upper body. emoticon
