Doors Flung Wide Open!

I am so proud of ALL the barriers which have been overcome as my fitness and health has improved over the past few years with the tremendous support available through SparkPeople!

Yesterday I tried cross country skiing for the first time EVER! A few years ago I couldn't even CONCEIVE of such an action! I'm riding my bicycle over 20 miles a trip...INCOMPREHENSIBLE to my old, unhealthy self! On the treadmill I find myself JOGGING through my favorite songs...another hurdle overcome!

I find myself becoming increasingly "addicted" to new and / or recovered challenges...thinking about rollerblading/skating, bikiing yet longer distances, getting back into a canoe, taking dancing lessons...the sky's the limit!

It's this feeling of physical freedom and unlimited potential that I am most proud of since reclaiming my fitness!

    I'm hoping to put you on a pedestal for courage and encouragement....I'm 53 and newly returned to sparkpeople...and have to lose weight and gain confidence in myself. I weigh in at 230 as a result of quitting smoking I plastered on 40 lbs in a year. Now I just want to get brave again. Any words of advice???

    Wow! You are doing so great. Cross-country skiing? That's terrific. I've never tried it....I only saw snow for the first time last year on a trip to Ohio! lol.

    Sounds like you have great endurance. That can only come from hard work. And you've done it! I know I will be there soon...just gotta stay focused.

    And may I make a suggestion? If you take dance lessons...go for Latin Ballroom. I just learned the Rhomba and Salsa. I did the salsa for an hour straight Sunday night at a jazz place. I burned almost 600 calories...and it was so fun.

    AMEN! I love this post - I'm looking forward to being able to say the same thing for myself in a lot of things soon. I'm back to being able to go up & down stairs without going one step at a time ... I can use BOTH legs to use the stairs!

    You should definitely try rollerblades. It's very similar to ice skating, and when you go downhill, you can swoosh from side-to-side like you're doing downhill skiing. Oh, it's got a name, but I can't spell it! LOL
