My dad

Thursday, January 15, 2009

We were all so shocked at how bad my dad's heart is - all 3 of the main heart arteries are clogged - noone can believe how he has ignored the pain for so long and how he has even functioned. It is believed he did have a heart attack the night we couldn't get him to go to the hospital - The night before Christmas eve. We gave him aspirin - that probably saved his life! He is being flown to a hospital up north on Tuesday for surgery on Wednesday. I am confident he will do well - he is a stubborn and strong man and in fairly good health otherwise - man I have to keep up my exercise and eat even better. I really need to make sure my DH & kids do too.
Now my mom has pneumonia - she has been staying up too late and worrying too much. I need to make sure she gets her rest and eats properly too. She is on a strong antibiotic that seems to be working well.
I did get to the gym today - thank goodness for that - it has really relieved some stress - I have been doing Rodney Ye's (sp?)morning yoga video most days too - it is only about 20 minutes, but it really starts the day off right. I am trying to stay in my calorie range - eating lots of veggies - but I am struggling with th chocolate habit still.

ooh, I hear ya' on the CHOCOLATE, Kris, that's MY big-y too.

You'll be sooo AMAZED after your dad gets his arteries 'scoured' out! My gran'pa had that, plus, later they did a 'cleaning' of the arteries going to his brain (he was getting dizzy spells and the tests showed his oxygen supply was nearly cut off) and WHOA, talk about 'sharp as a tack' we couldn't keep up with his wit, Kris... anyway, I still do know how these medical procedures STRESS, and maybe your dad doesn't show it, but he could use some reassurance about now. I'll be keeping him in my prayers, and your mom... you're such a GREAT, inspiration, to everybody, Kris... always 'there' for team members... and if you need me, just holler, girl!!

My dad had his "cardiac incident" (he won't say heart attack) 12 years ago at age 56. He had a quad bipass. (His brothers had already had their bypasses at 46 and 50 respectively, my dad's was "later" because he was in good shape, and a marathoner in his 30s and 40s.

I finally got serious when they started me on Lipitor, I share the family cholesterol pattern.

My dad and his brothers are all still doing great. I am confident your dad can, too. Good luck taking care of everyone (including yourself. Try to cut yourself some slack.)

There is nothing that gets you motivated like watching your parents go through health problems that could have been avoided (or so they tell us.)

I have a father with cancer, and a mother with various health problems associated with diabetes, (high cholesteral, high blood pressure, she has also had problems with her feet and pancreas)

I know how you feel about needing to stay healthy because of health problems in your family. I too have a risk of developing many health problems like Diabetes, Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure and even a weak heart. You see, my grandmother suffers from most if not all of these problems and everyday I pray that she will be around for another ten years or more.
