They're Heeerre: Invasion of the Little Green Women

Sunday, January 11, 2009

The local newspaper ran a story on the area Girl Scout's Cookie sale rally. I knew it was about time for the invasion of the little blue, brown and green women. From now until sometime in March, we'll see them everywhere-ringing out doorbells, at the supermarket and in my case the parking lot of Walmart. Their moms and den mothers will be putting order forms in your face and how will we be able to resist those Do-Si-Dos, Thin Mints, Shortbread Cookies and the ones who's name escapes me with the coconut, caramel and chocolate stripes. I neglected to read the price per box this season but I wonder if the economy will affect the prices? I've been through5 cookie sales in my life-2 of my own when there were 4 varieties and they were .50/box and 3 when my daughter sold them at 2.50/box. They're probably up to 3.50 now. Will that deter me from tasting at least 1 Do-Si-Do and a thin mint? I doubt it. Decisions, decisions, decisions...
Should we support America's youth or be good Spark Citizens and pretend they don't exist? We can't be cruel to children and I think most of us were girl scouts at one time or our children are/were girl scouts. There's probably a few den mothers on Spark so we've got to contribute to a worthy cause. I think you guys know as well as I do that Girl Scout Cookies are like Lay's Potato Chips-no one can eat just one which is why I usually wind up with at least 10 boxes of Do-Si-Dos, 4 or 5 boxes of Shortbread, several Thin Mints and a couple of those with the forgotten names. This will be my year to practice self control and eat 1 cookie per serving. I'm going to be needing lots of support from my team mates! I just hope they haven't come up with some new flavor that I've just gotta try! That reminds me-what became of the lemon coolers? They were pretty good. The taste of a peanut butter patty just entered my mind and alerted my taste buds. Hmmm...the little girl up the street is a daisy scout so I'm sure she'll be stopping by this week... emoticon
Well, I hope Spark has included them in the Foods Database because they're out there, we're going to eat them and some of us will be honest enough to include them in our nutrition planner.
My fellow Sparkers, this is another test for us. If we can buy them, eat the suggested servings on the box, and then walk away until another day we can survive the invasion. Are we strong enough? Tough enough? Are we disciplined?
Just take a deep breath, brace yourself, say a prayer for strength, get cash or checkbook ready and let the invasion begin!

Yeah, I ordered 4 boxes last weekend. Fortunately, the only ones that send me overboard is the Samoas.........and I didn't buy any of those! The rest of them, I can eat the recommended serving and be done with.

BTW, they last forever in the freezer. Nobody eats frozen cookies! lol!

Some of the cookies are in the nutrition tracker. I have, in the past paid for several boxes, kept one or two, and given the rest away or back to the troop. My downfall are the shortbreads and the peanutbutter sandwich.

We'll have to pray for each other. The shortbread cookies are my weakness! Thank God I have yet to be approached. In the past 1 serving was 1 box. This year I'll try for 1 sleeve or less. emoticon

Yes, I had a co-worker approach me last week. I considered saying no without looking at it, but then I thought I'd take a look and just support her daughter by indulging in 2 boxes of something. Luckily, the order form has the nutritional data right on there! Yes, they're $3.50/box. I ended up buying two not so nutritionally kind but oh-so-yummy sounding treats. They have some new thing like a Dulce de Leche. So... had to have that one. And I'd managed to go all last year without a Samoa! So... had to have those as well.

If you want to get prepared, here you go:
