If you have been following my blog, you will know that I took some time off for the holidays, enjoying both the plentiful food, and the lack of structure in my day. I let my walking (mostly) drop off, and got more sleep, read some books, and designed some cards.
Last weekend, I started picking up the pace again, and Monday when I went back to work, I resumed my 12,000+ step daily walking program. Since then, my daily pedometer count has ranged from a low of 10,200 steps (Tuesday: it's always nuts on Tuesdays) to a high of 14,700. I hit 14,700 yesterday, partly because of the trouble I had getting home (cracked rail on the subway track affecting the train I usually take home -- minimum 2 hour delay was expected while it was being repaired). In the end, everything worked out beautifully both for me and for the kids, but there were some harrowing moments before I figured out how to get home, and how to get my children fed and reassured, since on top of everything else, my husband was out of town attending to his parents.
In the end, the worst that can be said is that I got some unplanned exercise lugging a fellow traveler's heavy suitcase down 2 broken escalators, while she carried my lighter briefcase. My legs felt like wet noodles after that, but today I am fine, and I was happy to have had the opportunity to help someone who was facing greater difficulties getting home than I was. We shared a cab to a subway station that was past the broken segment of track, and then resumed our subway ride to our respective stations. I found my children happy and well-fed at my friends' home, and when I got there, they gave me dinner too. I was especially glad that my friends were able to help out in a pinch, because my son had had a bad day at school, and without their support, he would probably have had a meltdown.
Anyway, that's probably more than you wanted to know about my day. The point is, I'm back on track with my diet and exercise. I signed up for the New YOU team to give myself a little extra boost this month, and with some encouragement from SP_Nancy, I bought a new pair of shoes and started working some jogging intervals into my treadmill workouts following Sparkcoach Jen's 8 week, 5K training program. I am really enjoying that. (Thanks, Nancy, if you are reading this!) Perhaps I will be able to run again!
Special thanks to Libra73 for gently prodding me to keep up my blog!
