So yesterday I purchase three gadgets that hopefully will help me succeed in this journey.
1. A fancy pedometer
I live in NYC and take public transportation, so I always feel like I'm meeting that 10000 steps thing easily. But lately I'm not so sure. I think it's probably less than 1000 steps to my subway stop each way, and then I sit in an office. So basically I want to use it next week when it comes to figure out how many steps I actually take a day and add from there. Plus this one has a feature where it counts aerobic steps separately from regular steps. I want to keep building on both separately!
2. A new scale with a body fat monitor that tracks your total body.
I was shocked to find out that body fat scales only go by your legs. It sends the charge up one leg and down the other. So although any sort of body fat monitoring by scale or electric impulse will be a little off (say =/- 2%) this scale uses a base monitor and a hand held one together. And when all is said an done, that's the number I want to change the most.
3. A heart rate monitor.
I got a pretty basic model, but hopefully it will at least be accurate. I want to be able to track calories burned for real, because my choice of equipment at the gym is the elliptical most often, and Spark seems to severely overestimate the calories burned.
So that's it. Hopefully each will work and help the other to really start to inform me of my fitness level and what kind of change I can hope to achieve. I can't wait to receive them - they should arrive by Tuesday!
