Couch 2 5K ---commenced Dec 2, 2008
I haven't been really motivated to go to the gym here lately and I've been feeling a little frumpy, so I took my sister's advice and decided to start the running program she did. I looked at the " Couch 2 5k " stuff and thought "oh, hell why not." I put my sneakers on and donned not just one but 2 super- duper- boulder- holders specifically made for high impact sports. The girls surely appreciate this after about thirty minutes of up and down repetitive motion. Armed only with my cell phone and the neighbor's dog (we sort of share him), I started down the road. Down a hill, up a hill. I thought Texas was flat! I must live on the only country road in this part of texas that has hills, but I made it (the dog went home half way through it). Aside from nearly getting run over by a dairy truck, it wasn't too bad.
The whole premise of this program is to prepare you for a 5k race in nine weeks without burning you out. Three times a week with a day separating work outs you are supposed to run .
Week 1 day1: Warm up, brisk walk for 5minutes, jog 60 sec, walk 90. Repeat this for 20 minutes. cool down walk 5 minutes. (each week adds more jogging less walking)
Wasn't bad at all.... the only problem was that i didn't have a watch, so I used my cell phone as a timer. Real PIA- totally not a good idea. It wasnt' till later that day that I figured out that there are downloadable podcasts that have music and a guy telling you when to switch from walking to running. Duh! I am now equipped with my sneakers, two bras, my mp3 with appropriate podcast and Ibuprofen
