Downsizing

It has been over a year since I bought any clothes for myself. We've been trying really hard to pay off the last of our credit card debt and we've gone without some things that were common in our lives several years ago. New clothes had been one of them.
I had noticed that my favorite pair of black trousers had become badly frayed from so many washings, so when we received a small windfall, I went shopping. I started by trying on pants the size of my favorite pair but was surprised to find that they were definitely too big. So I tried on the next size down. They fit much better, and I bought them. When I got home, excited about going down a size, a friend pointed out that the ones I bought were also too big. I returned them for the next smaller size, and those pants fit almost perfectly!
I really didn't realize that I had lost so many inches. I look at myself in the mirror and still see a thickening waist and skin that is all too quickly losing the battle with gravity. When all that is covered up by new clothes two sizes smaller that those I bought over a year ago, it looks pretty good.
Just as those extra pounds crept up on me when I was busy doing other things, they slipped off again when I started paying attention to living a healthy lifestyle. Thanks, Spark People.
