A New Day...A New Year

Thursday, January 01, 2009

Before joining SP I used to track my food and exercise on another online site, which was very good but didn't include the interaction with others that SP does, which I believe makes SP much better. But the one thing about that experience that still rings in my head is that I journaled much, much more, practically every time I tracked my food/exercise. And I ended every journal entry with a request to God for help in my journey. Now, I'm a fairly spiritual person, I'm the product of 15 years of Catholic School education, we go to church just about every week and it is not a chore to do so. My son and I often say our prayers at the end of the day, just before he goes to sleep at night. I find a peace there, and I hope I am teaching him to, also. But I wouldn't consider myself a Holy Roller, I don't preach and I've never been one of those people that believes that God interferes with/ micromanages every aspect of daily living. So I find it curious that I ended just about ever single weight loss/exercise journal entry with a "help me God" request.

What does any of this have to do with this blog entry?? I don't know, I thought I was sitting down to talk about turning the page on 2008 with that annual sense of renewal that New Year's Day brings, and suddenly I was writing about all those old journal entries and my calls for help to God.. I still don't know what it means, but you know what?? I'm not going to change a single word, I'm just going to say this: along with thanking God for any help He has given me along the way, I am going to thank all the wonderful people I have met here at SP, and I am going to renew my sense of personal responsibility not only for where I was at the start of this journey, but also for helping me to lose 20ish pounds since I started here in February 2008 and for my promise to myself to stay on program and schedule for this year...

I would also like to tell anyone reading this that if I can ever be of assistance to them for anything, I am at their service and would be honored to help "spread the spark" to them, just as so many here have done for me. Happy 2009 to everyone. May it bring us all closer to our goals.

As a new year arrives we reflect on the past and hopefully see were we need to make adjustments to our attitude and goals.
