Power Restored

Saturday, December 20, 2008

I've been MIA for the better part of a week at this point! Although I am back, I probably won't be very active until after the New Year. I am overwhelmed. We live in NH and were hit pretty hard by the ice storm a week ago. We lost power for a full week and moved in with friends. There are many in the region who are still without power and might not be restored for some time. Shelters are open but many are staying in their homes with the help of wood stoves and generators. Looting is becoming a problem.

I am feeling totally overwhelmed, although I know we are better off than many people! We got another 8-inch snowfall last night and more snow is supposed to start Sunday AM with predictions of more ice and power outages. We lost power for a couple hours again last night, but it is back! Our road and utility crews are so exhausted. Usually an 8-inch snowfall in NH isn't that big a deal ... but now enough is enough!

I plan on wrapping the holiday gifts I have bought today and my 8yo and I will cut out some sugar cookies. At least I can make the house smell and look like the holidays!

My ski job was supposed to start today, but I had to cancel. But I am committed to next week. I also have a lot of food prep to do for my parents, which I bring to them for xmas. Our hot water heater bit the dust with the power outage, and that is not helping my mood at all! I can't imagine having time to do more shopping between now and Christmas and that is really bothering me!

I guess I'm taking a turn as a whiner and complainer. Right now, I just want this month to be over!

Wow Deb, you certainly have been through it...I'm just so thankful that you and your family were able to stay warm and fed and didn't suffer any major house issues from that storm!

Think of it this'll be a Hanukkah and Christmas you won't soon forget! Sort of a memory maker....

Oh, I feel for you. I was without power for a week in September and then another week without hot water. And the weather cool and dry those two weeks! You've got it much worse than I had it. Hang in there. Do what you can and let the rest go. SP will be here for you when you get back.

That's what these blogs are for. Whine away instead of eating away lol. Hope everything gets better, and just remember Sparkpeople will still be here when you get back.
