Amazing Inspirational Quote

Thursday, December 18, 2008

"Every time you meet a situation, though you think at the time it is an impossibility, and you go through the tortures of the damned, once you have met it and lived through it you will find that forever after you are freer than you were before."
~Eleanor Roosevelt

I'm not sure where or when I first read this, but I know that it made me cry. I had typed and printed this quote out a little over a year ago. I often read it to summon up courage and strength within myself when I wanted to give up. I put up 2 copies at my house - above the sink where I do dishes and the refrigerator door, and 1 on the wall of my cubicle at work.

Then a year difficult times and failures came - illness and deaths of loved ones, isolation from friends, slipping slowly back to the comfort of food and I took them down over time, too ashamed and lonely to take these words to heart. I was in a place where I wanted to be in a funk. I wanted to wallow and feel sorry for myself. At times I literally thought during a binge "I might as well eat sh** and die" Half joking, half serious.

Well, I think I've grown out of that now...I HOPE ;) and just found a copy of the quote in an old journal as I was sorting through a box. I felt a small spark of hope within myself as I read it. I think its time to put them up again - this time with super glue.

I am so glad that you found that small spark...Keep it up...I used to use food to punish myself as well. I still have to fight those urges and instead when I feel frustrated I try and work out. I love Eleanor Roosevelt, she is a very admirable lady. Thanks for the quote!
