I joined MIT (marathon in training) this morning. I never would have pictured me doing a marathon when I started running 8 months ago but here I am. I feel like it is the next logical step for me in this incredible journey that SPARK is leading me on.
The day started with an information session which outlined the program. We then put ourselves into pace groups. This was a little tough for me because my running pace varies between short and long distances. I decided to try and go with a pace that was somewhere in between. Let me tell you that they wasted no time in getting us going. We ran 6.22 miles this morning in temperatures of about 20-25 degrees. The thought of doing this for the next 20 weeks gives a new meaning to long, cold winter. Hopefully I can make it through this. I HATE the cold weather. However my thinking is that it will be easier to run 22 miles in the cold than in the blistering heat of August/September. So with that being said...wish me luck on this endeavor.
I am registered for the Earth Day Challenge Marathon in Gambier Ohio on April 19, 2009. I will post updates regularly.
