Christmas and Radiation treatment

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Hi all I am getting ready for the holiday. I have the tree up and out side decorations. Next I plan on baking cookies. I have the pizelles made and plan on doing short bread cookies and biscotti. I guess you can tell I don't like real sweet cookies. Anyone have a recipe I could try? I need something new.

In January I will start radiation and then go on an anti cancer drug like tamoxifin. I feel very lucky I am not scheduled for chemo. I realize that breast cancer is very frequent in women especially over age 60 so watch out. It is treatable many times but it is a scary thing to go through. I have spoken with those who chose no radiation and those who needed chemo according to Drs. Any information you have would be appreciated. I have made up my mind as to what I am going to do but I would like to hear other experiences. Bernie PS I love you guys

My mother had breast cancer in 1986 ~ she had a mastectomy & they also removed lymph nodes in her arm pit. What they discovered was that they had never seen breast cancer in that stage ~ they caught it VERY early and when it came time to decide on her treatment, they scrambled for a tissue sample.

I think each person must decide for themselves what they can handle. I know that with chemotherapy it kills off the good cells as well as the bad, and your body takes a long time to recover. I know that my mother had to avoid being around people, which for her was a constant struggle!

For me, I'm not certain I could handle having that chemo poison put into my body. But I drink a nutritional juice that helps to rebuild & regenerate the good cells in your body ~ so I guess I wouldn't know what I would do until I was faced with the problem.

Whatever your decision ~ know that you will always receive warm hugs & support from us!

Let us be your support that you lean on....
Let us be the shoulder you cry on when you need to release some stress.......
Let us be the friend that wraps an arm around you when you need a hug......

    Take care

Update: As for the cookies ~ my favorite were always Ginger Snaps & to make them healthier I added whole wheat flour instead of white flour.

I know 3 women who had breast cancer. All 3 had chemo and radiation. It wasn't fun but they did what their doctors told them. It scares me to death but with these women as role models, I would find the courage if it happened to me.
