Joys and Frustrations! - About my Smokie-baby!

Friday, November 14, 2008

Smokie and I trained for about an hour today! Whoo! I can't believe I held her attention span for that long. She already knew "Sit" and "Up" (which is, essentially beg - she stand up on her hind legs and balances). Today, I taught her "Down", which she was skeptical about at first, but picked up on pretty quick. I was so proud of her! She kept her eyes on me (and her treat) the entire time, even with Bandit running between us, Chance trying to take the treats from her mouth, and Abby sniffing my hands away. What a good girl!

I was so proud of her. I loved watching her tail wag in such excitement when she did it right and knew it! What a lovely baby.

She's about 5 months old now. I've got no clue, really, as to how big she's supposed to get, but she's starting to close in on thirty pounds at time goes on! Total cutie, though. She's got such a desire to please, it's awesome. Sometimes, she'll get a little stubborn, and she LOVES to bark (that's the lab in her). She barks at everything.

New people.
Other dogs.
Herself in the mirror. Or any reflection.
Her toys.
Chance
Abby
Bandit..

But, that's my girl. I'll never be surprised when someone comes to the door - that's for sure.

So, like I said.

I had been working so hard with her to teach her "Down" and she picked it up. I was so proud of her! I was even able to combine her tricks and she loved it. She loves our little training sessions. Since I've been so busy, we haven't had as many as we used to...I missed her like crazy, and I think she missed me too.

But, right after all the successful training, she went into the kitchen and started peeing on the floor! ARG! I said "NO! No, Smokie, bad! You do that OUTSIDE!! OUTSIDE!!", and she tucked her tail between her legs and darted to the living room.

So.

I pushed her outside (with all the other fur-babies) so I could clean it up. ARG! I hated that. The happy, wonderful, fuzzy feeling of success and getting close to her, and then the frustration of her peeing inside the house!

She also loves car rides (Sorry, I just have to put this picture in here - I think it's so cute).

My husband and I call it "Buh-byes!", and she just darts right to the car. She knows exactly what it looks like, and she just sits by the passenger door waiting for you to open it and take her somewhere fun! It's so adorable. I love this girl.

I truly love all my fur-babies. I just wanted to talk about Smokie today!

Sooo cute. Good Job with the training - isn't it the best when they figure out a trick....I have been teaching my girl "take a bow" .....she wasn't getting it so everytime I saw her stretch I would say it as she was doing it and reward her...I didn't think she had caught on as I couldn't get her to do it with her reg tricks but I said Take a Bow the other morning and she did it.....soooo cute!
