Political Rallies in a Swing State during Rush Hour?

Friday, October 17, 2008

Missouri is a battleground state so the candidates are here a LOT. There was a debate here. Tomorrow is a huge Obama rally on the grounds of the Gateway Arch. On Monday McCain will have a rally in a much smaller venue just west of St Louis in St Charles, where I live. Gates for that one open at 7 am, which is sure to screw with rush hour traffic. Two Fridays ago, the president was in town for a fundraiser at the home of a local rich person. That screwed up Friday evening rush hour traffic in St Louis.

Messing with rush hour traffic isn't a way to make friends in a swing state! My (then undecided) hubby called this proud blue liberal after the Friday debacle and said he made up his mind...he wasn't voting for the Republican's if they couldn't even let the working people get home before shutting down the highway. He REALLY got a taste of how little they cared about him! I won't use the language he used on the phone when he called me to tell me what he was experiencing and what that was doing to his voting decision.

Whew! I'm glad Obama is coming to St Louis for the rally on SATURDAY!

And I get my walking exercise and go to the rally all in one! BONUS!

Sounds like when the Pope came to Ottawa when I lived there. Everything closed down, including the place where I worked, and I sure couldn't afford to lose a day of work. So I figured I might as well get some grocery shopping done. The buses were all screwed up; there I was waiting for the bus with my little daughter for about an hour before I gave up and somehow carried all the groceries home with daughter trailing behind. The Pope's speech was about helping the poor. Hah!
