I just went for my first shopping trip for the food I needed according to the Sparkpeople meal plan. $246.34! Holy crap! I bought stuff like hummus (what is that stuff anyway?) and tofu (which I actually like, btw). And I have to take into account that I editted the grocery list to include portions for my 2 kids. Not only that, but groceries cost more now than ever no matter what you buy. At least I got what I needed.
That's why it's so hard for me to stay on a unique meal plan. If I have to buy and prepare something separate for myself than what I fix for my children and husband, then I won't do it because that's just too much extra work in the kitchen (I hate to cook). I have to have something that can be customized to include the whole family. But then if the meal plan is too unusual then my kids won't eat it and I have to abandon it for that reason.
Not that my kids aren't accustomed to healthy food. My daughter is a bit picky and only wants to eat what she can dip in ketchup. My son is picky too depending on his mood, but he will eat spinach. I pick whole wheat items and I buy organic when we can afford it.
One of my biggest motivations for coming to sparkppl is that I've been having these awful headaches these past few months. My doctor says they're tension headaches. I've tried all the over-the-counter pain relievers and nothing helps. I'm a ninny when it comes to medication and I'm too afraid to take anything stronger than that. I also have problems with worrying and anxiety.
Anyhow I've been thinking that a healthier lifestyle might help me manage my headache pain and worrying without having to resort to prescription meds. My doctor's all for it, so we'll see how it all goes...
