It is with a heavy heart that I write the events of last week. We have been having power rationing lately because of a major issue with one of the electrical generators running the whole system. Last night was spent mostly in the dark, but at around bedtime the power returned, but was spiking at nearly double the normal output. Don shut off our breaker. An hour later, we were all trying to sleep, but I smelled something burning. It was like a nightmare. The guard came knocking on our window the same time that Don was getting dressed to see what the problem was.
Don and Paul went next door to our office and the door to the main computer hub was glowing orange. Paul and Don both thought it was a lost cause. Don kicked down the door and all of us started frantically doing everything we knew to get the fire put out. Only 2 of 5 of the fire extinguishers worked. We had to carry hundreds of buckets of water by flash light into the smoking and burning building. The main fire was in the ceiling where the electical wiring is.
It took over 2 hours of hard work to put out the blaze. In the end, Egon and Hannah and Hefel had joined our fight. We called it a night at 1:00 a.m. It was horrific.
Today, we looked at the damage. Had we not reacted as quickly as we did there would only be cement blocks left. It looks like our computers made it and we were busy moving the office to the old Bible College classroom. I don't do stairs, so my office is now located in our apartment.
We are all exhausted today. Don and the team leave tomorrow for Perimiho and Madaba crusades. They will be on the road for 19 days. Please pray for them. Pray for the move to go well. We need to replace the whole network. I am using Paul's internet. The office has no internet service, until we get everything re wired and set up again.
That means I don't have internet access at home either.
I am eating more comfort food than normal, but I have to say I am being reasonable- most of the time.
No electricity all weekend. We are using a generator for a few hours.
Sorry this is so choppy. I am trying to write as fast as I can, so that I can catch up on all the mail.
