Amazing Bacon Sandwich
Sunday, October 05, 2008
Well, I haven't written about food that much on this website. I had originally planned to, but hadn't to this point.
So, I hope that you're ready to try my bacon sandwich.
For this recipe, you'll need, some bacon, some strong flavored cheese (One that goes well with spiciness, smokeyness, tanginess, and sweetness. I went with Spanish Manchego which was perfect in my book.), optional honey, optional homemade orange spice honey, whole grain bread, baby spinach, and an apple.
Start by cooking the bacon until it is crispy and drain it of its fat. Luckily, bacon is LOADED with flavor, so you won't need tons to make this dish taste really good with it.
Add some apple sliced very thin with perhaps a touch of honey. I go with granny smith apple because I love it's texture and the sourness that it brings. I use the honey with this apple to add some sweetness.
Add slivers of the cheese. Spanish Manchego cheese is powerful enough in flavor that you don't need tons to add a lot of flavor.
The mayo is definitely optional. It will taste great without it, but a mean spicy mayo made with some orange juice, cider vinegre, and homemade chile oil can be a tasty addition. Just don't use tons.
Add the spinach and put it between some whole grain bread and you have a healthy sandwich. But, what can make this sandwich very healthy is that you can really pile on tons of spinach and a lot of apples and just a bit of cheese, bacon and mayo and have something that's loaded with veggies and fruit, but that tastes amazingly smokey, spicy, tangy, sweet with perfect balance and is amazingly delicious.
I hope that you guys can enjoy it!!!
