Laid off! A New Chapter!

Saturday, September 27, 2008

I got laid off yesterday at my job. The company has been in financial trouble for years; had a massive lay-off in 2003. I've been waiting for my turn since then; when it finally came it was bittersweet. I am always so pressed for time, it'll be good to have some time off to take care of some things around here. We moved in here three years ago and I still don't feel settled. I'd like to take a few months off on unemployment and get caught up, but with the economy the way it is I can't pass up any opportunity that comes along!

My head is buzzing with "how do I handle this" and "what do I do about that". I don't know what my life looks like now and that's weird to me.

I have decided though that I'm going to continue going to the classes at the Rec in the morning. I can really feel the difference it has made in my body and I want to continue that; at least for the next quarter. I may have to be careful about what groceries I buy but I won't eat foods that are higher in fat just because they're cheaper!

I will continue with my goals! I will succeed!

Sorry to hear that you were laid off, but sounds like you have a great attitude about it. I'll agree with Linda that this could be a blessing in disguise. This summer, I voluntarily left the IT field and took about a 40% pay cut to re-enter the health care field.

But now I love what I do. And when I finish the LPN program in two years, I'll be making a little more than I did in IT. Once I get my RN license, I could easily make double what I was making before.

So don't be afraid to use this as an opportunity to try something new, or return to something you know you love. Good luck in your career and your weight loss goals!

This will end up being a blessing. Sometimes it is difficult to see it while in the midst of the problem!! Take care and I wish you all the best.

You never know that life will throw our way. I remember the 1989 lay offs. I was one of them that was plucked out. Back then I did not see that it was a blessing but it was. Now with things going the way they are it is hard to say what will come next. Hold on to Gods hand. Man closes one door God will open up another.

oh Sandy -- this is truly a huge transition! Sounds like you're making some sound decisions where you can -- like continuing the Rec classes. Good luck with your choices that will be coming - I'll pray for the opportunities that come your way, that they'll be tailor made for you and where you want to take your life from here...
Your determination to succeed and your calm focus on the Beck principles will give you the tools you need! Best of luck -- keep taking care of yourself!
