Sunday, Sept 14, I decided to try eating Raw. I've read about it online and thought it might be something I could do because of the weight loss associated with it. I'm doing about 70% raw. I've lost a few lbs in a few days but it has also eliminated alot of my cravings. I have a long way to go with this. I want to purchase some books on it and definitely have to increase what I can eat. I'm sleeping more deeply which is also one of pluses. For breakfast I like to have a smoothie made of 2 bananas, 4 cups of spinach, a cup of water, and I add a scoop of whey protein. Right now that's what I'm doing, not sure if the whey protein is ok for this type of eating but I'll continue it until I find out otherwise. Lunch is fruit mostly, some nuts for snacks. I started out the first few days eating alot of nuts, but I'm tapering off now. There is alot to read, one article said to eat 2 lbs of nuts a week, another article said to keep nuts at 10% of calories, at most 20%. My caloric intake is about 1500 a day, an ounce of nuts is about 120-150 calories. 2 ozs a day, which is what I thought I would try, is less than a lb a week. Too much fat is bad even on this way of eating. I don't call it a diet. Dinner is a big salad, with romaine, mixed greens, cukes, radishes, tomatoes, scallions, shredded carrots, some shredded red cabbage or green cabbage. Today I added a small piece of chicken and steamed some string beans. I'm not longing for sweets or bread. Before I started this we had a big salad at least 4 days a week, with either fish or chicken on it. We're both trying to keep our weight down. I'm still doing my workouts and swimming. I don't feel weak from this or especially energetic. I think the increase in energy will come with time. I'm sticking to this, I like it and I like the way I feel.

Good for you in trying something new, and you're going about it the right way. Read anything and everything you can and then see what works for you. I'm a fairly new vegan (about 3 months) and that's the approach I took. The best thing about these approaches to health and weight loss is the elimination of the processed foods in the diet with the bonus being a loss of cravings for the junky stuff almost overnight. Here's to your health!!!!! Anita emoticon
