What do the Beijing Olympics and Sparkpages have in common?

So I am just now viewing the Olympics since I was abroad in Paris while the Olympics were going on and thinking about anything but watching television. So, I came home and have been watching them on my TiVo. I have been a huge fan of the games since 1984 Los Angeles. It was the same year that we moved to California and it was HUGE!
I instantly wanted to become either Greg Louganis or Mary Lou Retton. Well, never really learned how to swim (yes, I have lived in California for most of my life and do not know how to swim... ), and well, I only got about as far as a cartwheel when it comes to gymnastics, and I am sure all the extra curves didnt help......so that left me a fan and nothing more.
Enter the Sparkpages and Beijing and I am newly motivated! Will I ever become an Olympian? Uh, that would be a definitive "no". Can I train myself to feel like one in my own right? Well, that is where the paths of Sparkpages and Beijing cross: I was motivated by these Olympics beyond belief. I think it was because they had many stories of older (ahem, more seasoned) atheletes - Dara Torres - who I believe is 41, a gymnast why won the vault bronze medal who is, I believe 36, I mean, wow. Not to take anything away from the beautiful Michael Phelps or the amazing Usain Bolt, but I am just as inspired by these atheletes who are not thought of as your textbook contenders, you know?
Then I start talking to my Sparkfriends all who have shared stories of the amazing, the seemingly impossible, and yet they have made their goals, they have become the athletes I right now only dream of becoming, I will not embarass you, you all know who you are. But I just thought to myself as I was watching the Olympics that really there is not much difference between Spark atheletes and Beijing athletes.
With that in mind, I realize now that though I may not be the next Mary Lou Retton, it does not mean that I should give on my dream of one day being an athelete - my inner athelete is in there somewhere, I am off to find her!
Now, fitting that into my busy schedule? Stay tuned
