Heart Healthy

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

This entry is for and from the heart.

My husband (52) had triple bypass surgery on August 8, 2008. This is a life changing experience not only for him but for everyone he is close to.

We are on week 5 post op, and he is doing awesome....he had this surgery not for himself but for those people who love him. And once I figured that out, I had to get healthy, not only for myself, but for all those people who love me.

We (my husband and I) are now eating heart healthy and walking. During recovery he can't do much but walk...he has to use sternal precautions with everything he does. Walking has improved his mind as well as his body.

Learning to eat heart healthy is an eye opener...it isn't a diet...it is a live change. To look back on all that I put into my body...it makes my skin crawl to now understand what it can do to your body...YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.

We sit down to eat a meal together...we make the table setting beautiful...using the fine china and wine glasses. We always have fruit and veggies on the plate...we try to have a variety of different meals all the time, so things do get boring.

We have each other and we have both realized that as long as we are together, we can get thru anything.

Now we will have the rest of our lives to continue to think Heart Healthy. emoticon

I hope this helps someone who may be at risk for heart disease.

Girl you are living it and doing it....that IS the key...this is not a diet and never will be...it is all about treating YOu and your body the best that you can....Doesn't it feel great to eat good foods and stay active everyday..it is so easy to eat bad, but taking the time to do it all right is the real reward...so refreshing.

I am so proud of you and all that you are doing to keep you and Don heart healthy...very proud!

    Love you...more than words
