The Magic Number

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

I think I have discovered my magic number - that is the amount of calories that I need to consume per day. SparkPeople tells me to shoot for 1200-1550. When I eat in the lower range of my limit, I find that later in the week I end up going WAY over. The past several days I've hit right around 1500 without really trying. I feel satisfied and I'm meeting my protein and fat goals, which I wasn't able to do at lower numbers. I think that this number will allow me to feel less deprived and keep me from over-eating to the extent that I have in the past. I'm sure that I will still have my days when I go over, but I think they will be a little less drastic. I think eating towards the higher end of my caloric limits will be better for me, both in terms of short-term weight loss and long-term maintenance.

Have you made sure you are entering the amount of calories you're burning each week and/or the days you are doing cardio/strength and for how long? I found that when you enter that data, Sparkpeople recalculates your calorie range. I didn't find out until later so it turns out that I was undereating. Once I raised my calorie intake, the pounds finally started falling off.
