Apprehensive - going on a trip

Friday, August 22, 2008

K - so I am a bit apprehensive about my weekend trip I am taking. Everytime I get away from home base I do not do so good on staying within my caloric intake. It's like getting let out for recess for me. I turn into a giant hoover. But, I've got to live in this world, right? I can't just hide in my cave...

So, I am going out there. And I am going to keep trying until I get it right.

...wish me success... here's goes nothing!

I think I went through a phase where I re-defined for myself what a vacation truly is it a vacation if I cut myself loose and give myself permission to snarf down everything in sight and then have to beat myself up over it forever afterwards?

So as AMYLIZZ727 suggests, I plan ahead and take a couple of gallons of spring water with me so I don't have to resort to soda or other less than helpful beverages. I pack many veggies and nuts for snacking on those long road trips. In the cooler I'll keep my lean meats, yogurt and other helpful foods so that I can keep my money in my pockets when I'm around all the zillion fast food places. Then I carefully decide where and when I'll dine out and allow myself a little bit of leeway, but basically stick with good healthy food choices. I also push myself to stick with working out in some fashion, whether it's taking advantage of the fitness centers that most hotels have or simply getting out with my sneakers on long walks.

I also try to keep an eye toward opportunities to enjoy fun activities which are like workouts...such as biking, swimming, and (someday!) kayaking, for instance.

The payoff is returning from an enjoyable vacation with no weight gained, and possibly even some weight LOST! :-)

Hey there, I do the exact same thing! I have found that taking my own snacks helps a little. Stay strong and remember your goals. Also, if you have someone else going with you maybe you could ask them to help keep you accountable. Just a thought! Good luck!
