A Bit Apprehensive

Thursday, August 14, 2008

I am going on our annual two-week family vacation at a nearby beach on Saturday. I am looking forward to it, of course, but I'm also apprehensive. I have really gotten into a wonderful exercise groove. I've been having really, really, great workouts at the gym, which of course won't be anywhere around me for these two weeks. Well, the first week of the vacation I'm actually travelling back to work two days, so that's two days I can count on to get to the gym, but other than that, I'm going to have to rely on myself to do non-gym workouts. It seems crazy that I'm not just saying, well, I'll just go out for walks, which of course is my plan.

But this annual vacation has been going on for about 15 years. There is a whole cadence to it that just doesn't lend itself to the "active" lifestyle. I have been sidelined by it in terms of exercise in years gone by, so this is not an idle fear. I'm so afraid that in spite of all my best intentions, this is going to put a damper on the roll I'm on.. Plus, as I told my husband the other day, I'm just a gym work-outer. I get on the bike or elliptical or treadmill and really, really push myself. I've been having such wonderful workouts...45 minutes of working at about 140 beats a minute, sweating up a storm and just feeling so darn good. I'm not a good push myself when I'm walking girl. I am hoping that my new toy, the iPod, will help me to get a good pace going.

Well, I just had to vent. I am praying that this year really is as different as it feels.

You can for walks? Maybe take up training for running? There is so much you can still do without the gym. Do you have any free weights you could bring? I am sure you will figure something out.

    Enjoy your vacation!

You can do anything you put your mind to......if you should happen not to do so well, it's a short term set back....one you can overcome!
