Update, Goals, and Intervals

As of this morning, I have lost a total of 13.5 pounds. :) Only 1.5 more before I hit the 15-lb mark! Only 3.5 more until I reach my goal weight! I can do this!

I have a few goals that I am working on right now. The first and most obvious is to reach my weight loss goal. I think I can do this within a month if I really push myself. I'm on the right track, I just need to continue chipping away at it.

Secondly, I would like to continue toning and building muscle. I plan to do this by continuing my toning classes and adding a bit more running to my routine.

Finally, I would really like to run a 5K in under 30 minutes. That would equal a 9:22 per mile pace (or 6.4 mph), which is really fast for me. I usually jog at a 10:30 pace.

I think intervals might help me build speed. I have been adding sprints to the end of my jogs. For example, I'll jog 3 miles at a slow pace, then sprint the last .2 miles at a 7mph speed. Yesterday, I jogged 2 miles at 5.7, the third mile at 6.0, and the last .2 at 7.0.

Right now I'm just adding speed where I think I can, while still being able to run the whole 3.2 without stopping. I'm hesitant to do traditional intervals where you jog/sprint throughout the run because I'm afraid I'll get tired quickly and not finish my run. I guess I need to read more about intervals and ease my way into it.

    Awesome job on your weight loss. That's great.

    Wishing you all the best in your 5k. I have my first one in 27 days. You can do it. Ahh. Currently I can do about 2.5 in 25 minutes.
