I've been active on SP for 6 months now, and am happy to say that I've lost 36 pounds so far.
I have been trying to lose weight since I was in 5th grade, and this is the first time that I feel like I've made a lifestyle change that will contribute to a healthy future.
Every time I lost weight in the past, it was because I drastically changed my diet for a short period of time. Once I met my goal, I went back to eating the way I had before. So of course, I gained back the weight I had lost, and more. I never learned how to interact with food in a healthy way. And diet foods generally? They taste gross.
SP taught me approximately how many calories my body needs per day, and how to make the most of my food choices so I wouldn't be hungry when I had met my daily quota. (High fiber and high protein...but don't skip the carbs. Your body needs them.) It showed me what percentage of my food should be carbs/protein/fat. And yes, I did say fat. Your body needs that too. It's taken me six months to really understand how to eat without using the nutrition tracker to make sure I wasn't going over my calories or eating WAY too many carbs. Now I only track my food every once in a while to make sure I'm still making good choices.
I am healthier than I have ever been in my life. That's a great thing to say when you're 34 years old. I look better than I did when I got married, and by our 5th anniversary (February 2009) I will have reached my goal. Losing 60 pounds looked impossible when I started, but now I know that I can make it. I WILL make it.
My husband (who does NOT need to lose any weight) has been supportive through the whole journey. He even joined SP so we could do it together. He's never made me feel fat (even when I WAS) and encourages me to make healthy choices without making me feel bad if I choose the wrong ones sometimes. What an amazing man I married! I knew he was terrific, but every day I find another reason to thank God for blessing me with him. I love you honey!
