Baby Sitting

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

First off, I'm not sure it's called baby sitting when it's for your own kid...but anyway, Beth (my wife) works in the evenings sometimes (she does in-home visits for families with deaf babies so she has to work around everyone's schedules), which means I come home from work and watch Allie by myself. At first it was VERY stressful. All in all, Allie is a very good baby, but sometimes she would get fussy and I had no clue how to handle it. I ran down my checklist of common things that could possibly be wrong, and if none of those fixed the problem I was in serious trouble. Well, fast forward a couple of months and I'm a pro! Ok, I'm not a pro, and a lot of the credit goes to Allie for being easier to handle, but we end up having a lot of fun together now! We spend a lot of time singing songs (actually, I sing and she laughs, she's only four months old..c'mon people), and playing with her toys. She is a little person already...a little person that is looking to have as much fun as possible in between naps!

We are even brave enough to sign up for a baby class...that she and I are going to go to together! We're going to be learning sign language. You're thinking, "but you just said Beth works with deaf babies" - yeah, we're not taking the class as much for learning sign language as we are to meet/be around other kids and their parents. It doesn't start for another month or so, but should be fun!
