Emotional Eating Triggers

Sunday, July 13, 2008

For me, stress of any kind can trigger emotional eating, but one thing that gets me more than anything else is loneliness. When I start hunting around the kitchen looking for something sweet or salty to munch on and I'm not really hungry, I know something is up. That's when I need to get out and do something, call a friend, or get into a good book.

Another common trigger for me is negative feelings about myself - maybe the scale showed a gain even though I'd been eating healthy and exercising, could be a comment someone made about me, maybe I did something I'm ashamed of or know I'll have to pay consequences for. To make myself feel better, I'll reach for food.

This is really quite the journey for me, and I'm taking it farther than I ever have. I'm excited to think about what's on the other end of it!
