Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof Lev. XXV X

By Order of the ASSEMBLY of the Province of PENSYLVANIA for the State House in Philada.

Pass and Stow
Philada
MDCCLIII

Those are the words engraved on the Liberty Bell.

They come from the Bible..Leviticus 25:10 .. to be exact.

"And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family."

I just want to share with you today my pride in this great country of ours. It truly is a blessed land and we can not lose our way.
I am the grandchild of immigrants, young teens who left their family and their security behind to sail across a wide ocean. They landed at Ellis Island and set to work building a dream for themselves and for their future generations. I am the child of a WWII veteran and the proud mother of an Army veteran.

I believe in the dream of my grandparents.

"Yes there's a lady that stands in a harbor for what we believe. And there's a bell that still echoes the price that it cost to be free."

– Aaron Tippen, "Where The Stars And Stripes And Eagles Fly"

I looked all over for words to share with you today and nothing says it better the Lee Greenwoods words:

"If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A.,

There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say:
I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A."

(Lee Greenwood, lyrics to Proud to Be An American"

Bless you all on this 232nd birthday of this grand land. May liberty shine bright for another 232 years.

We are not a perfect people, we are not a perfect land. But we are people with beliefs about the dignity of mankind. We are people who are not afraid to protect the weak. We believe in freedom.

We are all the children of those men and women who struggled to get here for a dream. And that dream lives today in millions. That fire in the gut to be free and to give your children a better life, that fire burns strong in our new immigrant communities.

We are a country that speaks 102 languages and in all those 102 languages ... the magic word is AMERICA.

Thank you for sharing that.....very moving and touching post. I love that song by Lee Greenwood.....it always gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. We belong to a group that has functions all over the US from time to time and we always end our dances with that one. It is awesome to see up to 100 people at a time standing up with their hands on their hearts singing that song along with Lee as the DJ plays it.

    thank you!

I was honored to hear Lee Greenwood sing this at a pre-race in Kentucky. Very moving to hear the grandstands singing with him! Thanks for reviving that memory for me!
