Well I completed my MAP TEST Monday morning and the results were confusing to me to say the least. The trainer/programer said based on the results he could tell I was a runner(something I never would have qualified myself as) and found out that I am ineffiecient in my fat burning while doing cardio. If you look back at previously posted blogs i mention heart rate training and training in those zones. Apparently I am doing most of my time above my Anerobic Threshold, meaning I am burning tons of sugar/glucose and not much fat. Grrrr. SO which the results they were able to give me three cardio workouts to help me burn fat, increase my maxVO2, and make me more efficient when i work out.
So what are these workouts like?
The first one I did yesterday was the base aerobic workout. It is a folllows:
Heart rate segment time total time
(122-133) 10 min 10 min
(133-139) 10 min 20 min
(139-144) 10 30 min
(133-139) 10 40
(139-144) 10 50
(133-139) 5 55
(122-133) 5 60

I have a choice of either running/jogging it or walking it using an incline to adjust for heart rate changes.

I found a couple things difficult while doing it the first time. I choose to walk with inclines the first time. I find it very difficult to doing the same thing for a long period of time and usually at the 30 minutes mark my mind starts to wonder. 60 minutes was painful. Also I found it difficult to maintain a heart rate and constanatly had to play with the incline and speed.

I also wonder if I have to only use the tredmill or if I can use the elliptical or bike as well. I aalso might try doing the program while hiking to keep away from boredom.

I've had 5 MAP test done over the past 2 1/2 years and the most recent test I had done (March 2008) shortened my heart rate zones similar to your current zones therefore it is much, much easier to keep my heart rate more consistent. I am currently in the CardiO2 endurance run class (and have been for well over 14 months now), and I have seen a bigger improvement since LTF got the new software for their current MAP test then I did with the first 4. I am really pumped to see how much time I can take off my fall races in a few months. Best of luck and...

PS. My running coach/trainer told me that if you have your MAP test done on the treadmill that your AT is figured just for that piece of equipment. He said that when I cycle (either stationary or spinning) that my AT would be less than when I was running and that I couldn't use my current HR zones that I use for running other than running. You may want to ask your trainer.
