OK, OK I'll Do The AFC

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Well, I said I wasn't going to do it, I swore up and down that I wouldn't do it again, but after my poor showing at the Rock N Roll Marathon, I decided I'm running the America's Finest City HM! Boy I'm a sucker! It took only 1/2 a second to convince me to do this race again.

There really isn't any reason I shouldn't do this race, except the fact that it is usually oh so very hot and it is at the middle of August when I've been known to slack a little on my training, yet these very good reasons for not doing this race are the reasons I used to persuade myself into doing this race again!!! Will I ever learn?

I would like to run this race in 2 hours. I will start my training next week, as I'm still recovering from my marathon this week. I'm trying to up my miles so next week I'm able to run 9 miles as a long run.

We'll see!!!!

Sue - That's exciting that you already have your next goal picked out. Make sure you rest well after the marathon, then ease back into your training. I'm learning this lesson slowly: listen to your body. As I write, I'm icing my hip after an easy 6-miler today. It was supposed to be a tempo -- that's what I had scheduled -- but I actually listened to my body today and took it easy. I think the hip will thank me.

    Happy training!

Good for you! It's always easier to continue the hard work when there is a goal on the horizon.
