The Good News Isn't Good News Until......

Sunday, May 11, 2008

For the past seven weeks, I have been through much agony. It all began when I discovered an abscess on one of my breasts. After being told this could be the deadliest form of breast cancer (inflammatory breast disease), I immediately had an ultrasound and biopsy.

It took almost a week to hear back from this biopsy. I can fully appreciate now what people go through awaiting results from tests.

Meanwhile I started having other problems. At 61 years of age, I began having bleeding so again off to the doctor for a pelvic ultrasound and endometrium biopsy.

I figured at this point that cancer must have totally taken over my body. Oh how I wanted to live to be able to see my grandbaby who will be born in October. Everything looked like such "doom and gloom," and I prepared for the worst.

At this point I am reminded of a story which goes like this: You are at work when your telephone rings and a neighbor frantically tells you, "Your house is on fire." You scurry around getting ready to leave the office to go home when the telephone again rings, and it's your neighbor again, who says, "Sorry I made a mistake and it's another house that's on fire - your house is NOT on fire."

What makes that great news is the backdrop of the bad news that you thought was taking place.

Anyway, to make a long story short, all of the biopsies and tests turned out okay. I had some benign polpys that were removed during a D & C, so I'm now back to my normal routine. No cancer of any sort, praise the Lord!

I have come to appreciate my life and my good health which I'm afraid I have taken for granted too many times.

My good news was made so much more precious when I thought there was only bad news in my life!

I'm more determined than ever now to treasure my good health and take care of myself with proper eating habits and exercise.
