10 lbs and still going strong...

This weekend is our town's annual Tulip festival, celebrating the Dutch heritage and the Dutch people who have made this town the way it is. Along with the costumes, parades, and tulips comes many varieties of fried, grilled, delicious Dutch treats like poffertjes - little eggie pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar, stroopwafels - thin cookies with a layer of caramel in between served warm, Dutch letters - flaky pastries with almond paste filling shaped like S's, and a myriad of pork products - pork chop on a stick, pork tenderloin, pork burger, pork loin sandwich, sausages, etc. Now, normally I take in at least 1 serving (sometimes 2 or 3) of all my favorites each day during the weekend, and I almost always gain weight.
But not this year!!!
This year I was choosy...I had a bite of one of my favorites - the deep fried corndog - instead of 2 or 3 whole dogs. I had one little poffertje instead of a plate full. I had 2 small vet ballen - like a doughnut hole with raisins and nutmeg - instead of a bag full. I split a pork burger with my husband, split a sausage, and then I was done. I stayed within my calorie range, I got good exercise, and I enjoyed the non-food attractions like the Dutch Market, the Dutch dancers, and the parades.
And when I stepped on the scale today, I had lost another pound! In spite of it being Tulip Time...
Moral of the story: it is possible to eat normally, to enjoy some favorites, and still lose weight. It doesn't take a ton of food rules to do it. Not to knock rules if that works for ya, but it usually causes me to backslide.
So, happy Tulip Time!
