Reach Out When You Need To

I'm going to borrow a habit from JESPAH for this blog and post a link to a video for a song that came up in my playlist the other day. I have a very large library, so songs don't pop up too often on random play, and I haven't heard this song in ages. I thought it a perfect example of SparkPeople both in the lyrics, and the imagery in the video.
I'm not going to address weight loss issues. I'm going to discuss self-esteem issues.
Many people who are overweight tend to lock themselves away from the world, choosing to either hide, or ignore who they are. This blog is to remind you that YOU are NOT your body. Your body is just a shell that keeps all of the gooey insides from falling out. The person that is you, is a vibrant, worthy person and the world deserves to know who you are. Each and every one of us has something to contribute, and when you hide yourself away, you are depriving the world of your wonder and beauty.
Yes, I said beauty.
Now, I certainly realize that overcoming those feelings can be even harder than the diet itself. And that's why it's so great to have a resource like SparkPeople. Because we are a community. We all stick together, and we help each other. Not just when we slip in our diet goals, but also to reinforce the fact that YOU ARE WORTH IT. The road to better health is not just about the body. It's about our mental and spiritual health as well.
As SparkPeople preaches all the time, take baby steps in this area as well.
If you're not quite ready to face the world yet, that's alright. At least get a little closer. Trade your telescope in for a keyhole.
Trade your dreams in for plans. Reward yourself for each mini-goal that you accomplish. What will you do for yourself when you lose 5 lbs? 10 lbs?
Stop being the breeze that dies in the trees, and become that whirlwind that faces life head-on with the force of a tornado.
There are literally thousands of people here willing to be YOUR Spark when you need them. That many sparks all put together make a pretty big flame. So remember that, every time you're feeling like it's just not worth continuing what you've started. Remember that every time you feel that nobody cares. We care. I care. Reach out, and someone will be there for you. Whether you need advice, or just to vent.
Because without your spark, our collective flame is weakened. We need you. Come on out and play.
