So, yesterday I came home from work and started talking to my sisters about how I want to go skating with them when the weather gets warm. Its one thing that my 2 sisters and my best friend love to do. There's just one problem. I haven't skated since I was about 11 years old. Its been about a decade since I've attempted to skate full speed and not fall on my face.
My mom had some skates that she hasn't really used in years...and they were a nice fit...maybe a little tight. I laced them up and had my sisters help me to not fall. We have some concrete in the basement so I decided I'd go down there and go back and forth and try to get the hang of it again.
My sisters were laughing uproariously. It was pretty funny. I'm slowly getting used to the feel of wheels under my feet again...and its probably highly entertaining to watch me struggle to keep from falling...begging for someone to make sure that I don't crack my skull open. I'm a good sport, so I let them laugh. I don't much care that I probably look like an idiot. :) They are both rollerbladers, though. I like the classic skates. My youngest sister said that as bad as I was doing on the skates...I was far better than she could be on rollerskates.
Its been raining like we live in Seattle, lately. On Monday, my sister and her boyfriend and I will hopefully be out skating in a parking lot somewhere...so I can practice a bit. I hope it stops raining long enough for me to relearn a skill I have lost. I remember skating and being really good at it and loving it. When I was a kid I never fell after I first felt comfortable on skates. Its exciting to know that when I get better...I can use this as both exercise AND fun.
Number of falls so far: Just one. No bloody knees, yet...but I wouldn't be surprised if I get some scrapes here, soon.
On St. Patrick's Day...let's just say it was a free day. I was bad. These things happen, I guess. ;)
I figure I will hit that 199 mark very very soon. I'm determined to be there soon and then to be out of the 190's sometime in April.
