Update for my Spark friends. Last Sat I decided to stop going to Mac Donalds, Wendy's and Burger King not only because of health reasons but because of my wallet. Due to the economy, we have had to cut back on the excesses in our lives. One of the main places this economy has gotten us has been in the grocery bill. Our budget for 4 people has been $600/mth but in order to pay $100 more for gas a month some things have to be changed.
I went to Walmart and purchased about $300 worth of food and supplies. With that purchase I got a George Forman Grill which I feel will help to cut down the use of the Oven.
Prior to going to walmart I had made up my mind to cook for the week so there won't be an excuse to cheat and visit my local fast food joints. So while at the store I purchased a variety of sizes of the Rubber made containers.
The meats prepared were: Tilapia fish (grilled), Whole Chicken (crockpot), Turkey Meatloaf (oven), Lean Turkey Sausage, and my own Goulash which included ground Turkey, stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, corn or lentils, and kidney beans. This is served with corn bread.
A medley of sides were created: black eyed peas, brown and yellow rice, greens, baby carrots and a steamed medley of veggies.
With this selection I was able to make 5 lunch and dinner dishes for the work week. I was so tired I could barely walk or stand.
However, on Sunday I felt so relieved and relaxed that the food situation was completed. Everything was separated into four different containers for each day. This way if I want meat loaf today and my husband wants fish we can do that without having too many dishes.
I really suggest for everyone because it not only saves you money but it also prevents you from over eating. All the food is proportioned out.
