I'm appreciated.

So today is "Teacher Appreciation Day." We are having a luncheon at school in which the main course is subs from a local grocery store, and the sides and desserts are all brought by the support staff (anyone in the school who is NOT a certified teacher). Luckily, today is my day that I eat at the top end of my calorie range, and it's also the day that I have my strength band/cardio class after school. I should be in the clear. PTA put candy bars in our mailboxes this morning. A very nice gesture, and I might nibble on mine later. But I might bring half home to hubby, depending on how good it is.

I got an email yesterday talking about teachers and hwo much money they make, and I figured out that, before taxes, I get $.21 per student per hour that I work. That is one cheap babysitter. Classroom teachers make about $1.40 per student per hour. Now THAT is appreciation. No wonder teachers have second jobs...

Teachers have inspired me to learn more than my family and siblings had. Your job while it may not be finanically rewarding does come with other rewards that people who are not as fortunate, patient and kind as you will miss out on. So Here is to you and your teaching! What you are doing is more than babysitting - its inspiring.

I agree that true appreciation would be paying you for what you are worth. A child's life and mind are precious and those teaching are priceless. But we should try to put a more reasonable price to it! Thank you for all you do for the future citizens of our world!
