“What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
Mary Oliver

If you haven’t read Mary Oliver’s poetry, stop what you’re doing and go read her work.

I’ve been on this site a long, long time. Since it began. Still trying to lose those same pounds. Still unsuccessful. Telling myself, “Maybe this time will be different.” Hear the doubt in my own voice? I need to find some grit. I need to find some intestinal fortitude. I need to find some moxie. I’m one of the most confident people I know, but it doesn’t help me with weight loss.

Knowing how to do a thing and doing the thing are not the same thing. That’s me and weight loss. My mother (yes, still living at age 93!) was a dietician. I grew up learning about a balanced diet and all about starches (they’re call carbohydrates now). No foods were off limits. The importance of portion control.

Actually, for my age, I’m in pretty good shape! No medications. Blood pressure is great.

If I friend you, it’s because I’m looking for folks active on this site to motivate me. Hopefully, I’ll do the same for you.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog! Am I correct in assuming the lying on the porch and following along is to my Pilates video? That's great! My workouts are very basic right now, but will progress slowly to advanced mat Pilates workouts.

Thanks for your comment! It is always helpful to hear from people to relate! Yes, my mother is never satisfied. I remind myself of that when I set boundaries. I could do everything she wants, she won't be satisfied and I will be burned out and filled with resentment or...I can do what I can handle, she will not be satisfied, but I will still have my sanity!

Thanks for you very helpful comment. I am sorry to see I am not alone, but it is strangely comforting too. Some of the articles I read on narcissist moms make me wonder if the author knows her personally. The thing is when not stressed she truly is a decent person capable of kindness and empathy or she was. Her life is not high stress these days, but she is really off the rails with her focus on me-maybe from covid isolation though we visit from a distance and she is in touch with friends. I am working hard to recognize her patterns so I can always remain calm and remove myself from the situation without confronting her. Confronting her is like releasing hungry murder hornets. It is a mourning process too knowing this will never be the relationship I hoped to have.

Thanks for the add, I’ve got you back! Like you, I’m also back after a long absence, and “relearning.” We’ve got this!
