I started at 270 in late December 09. I got down to 220 and stayed there all through summer of 2010. Then my thyroid went wonky and my decision making did, too. I gained 30 lbs back by January 2011.

I liked myself at 220, but for now I am setting my goal at 210. That's only forty lbs by summer. Last year I was able to lose fifty in a similar time frame. I think I can do it. I just have a couple ruts to climb back out of.

My Goals:
My main goal is to make permanent lifestyle changes for the benefit of my health. My main motivation is that I want to grow old enough to see my daughter's kids some day. She is only 9 so I have a long way to go.

My weight has gone up and down throughout my life. For the last fifteen years it has been mostly up. I joined a local six month long weight loss contest in the hopes that it will help me instill more permanent changes in my behavior rather than constantly riding the lose/gain/lose/gain cycle.

Being a big drinker, being hypothyroid, and loving to cook make this all a little more challenging. I think my biggest victory thus far has been in trying to convince myself it is okay to take care of me first in some instances.


My Program:
One goal is to get in 5 workouts per week of some combination of resistance circuit and cardio training. A heavy emphasis has been on keeping my heart rate up even during circuit training. When I reach my goal weight, I would love to start working some powerlifting cycles back into my program.

My second goal is get down to 210 lbs by the end of June. After I get there, I'll see if I want to continue losing. In my early twenties I competed as a natural bodybuilder at 194 lbs, so despite what the charts say, I think 210 lbs should make me reasonably lean despite the fact I am only 5' 6."

Third, I need to improve just about every medical measurement. Heart rate needs improvement both resting and active due in large part to my thyroid medication adding about 10 bpm. Lower bad cholesterol, raise good cholesterol, etc, etc, etc.



Personal Information:
I am a teacher and a father of one. I read, spend too much time online, am constantly broke, enjoy camping, and would prefer all liars be piled up on the bottom of an ocean somewhere.
