I have been on and off Spark since 2010. I would lose and then lose interest. I'm retired and have many other projects to do and trips to take which I'd rather do than work on weight loss. But this time is different. This time I have a serious health challenge. I received a diagnosis of Diabetes.

I really got cracking after that! With lots of self-education, self-discipline and change of eating habits I have lost fifteen pounds and taken my blood glucose numbers into a normal range. The doctor and I are both hoping that I will be able to control this with continual exercise, diet modifications and some pills.

Now that I have started some weight loss again I want to keep going and get back to a really healthy weight and fitness. That may take over a year, but I'm serious about making a life change, not just a temporary one. As Lincoln said: "We must make haste slowly."

Fitness Minutes: 2,177

My Goals:

Mainly to lose belly fat

Need to lose another 50-40 lbs to be 130-140 .

Maintain that weight (or less) for the rest of my life.

170 by August 1

Lose 20-30 lbs by January 1, 2017
Maintain a steady 2-3 lb loss every month

My Program:
1-2 hours exercise every day

Exercises of choice: stationary bike, walking and senior classes at the YMCA

Add strength training
resistance bands
some light weights
body resistance exercises

Personal Information:
72 years old
diagnosed Type 2 diabetes Dec 7, 2015 which currently is well under control.

Generally good health now and have had excellent health up to this time.

Have been thin and have been fat. This is still the most overweight I've ever been.

I'm a homebody. I'd rather cook for myself than go out to eat. I used to prefer solitary exercise to joining classes because 1) I enjoy the flexibility to control my time and 2) I'm a bit of a germaphobe when it comes to being with lots of people. But since I joined the YMCA a month ago I've been really learning a lot in classes for seniors.
I am TERRIFIED of bed bugs. UGH! I've never seen one, hope to never see one.

Other Information:
I have cut out most breads and sweets except for rare occasions.

I've cut down meat portions. My plates currently are 2/3 full of veggies and fruit.

I have been learning exciting new tastes from many natural foods I've never had before!

I find the changes I've been making to be even more FUN than they are Beneficial...though of course they are very beneficial.
