I joined SparkPeople about a year ago and was so excited about all it offered. I couldn't wait to get started on the process of transforming my mind, body, and soul. I came on a few times, logged some meals, read some articles, and left it at that. Nearly a year later, I looked back and thought, "what happened?" "Dieting" and working out has never been easy for me, but then again, is it really easy for anyone first starting out? I decided this past weekend I've had enough of my lame excuses. I can keep avoiding pictures and the fact that I don't fit in nearly anything in my closet and I can grow into an even more insecure young woman....OR I can take control of my destiny and undertake one of my greatest challenges--Losing 50 pounds!!

No more blaming a hectic school schedule.
No more saying it is too expensive to eat healthy (I have spent WAY more money eating BAD food).
No more giving up because it gets too hard.
No more self-criticism.

I'm fortunate enough to have a wonderful fiance who is undertaking this challenge with me. A week in, and we've already overcome the hardest part--avoiding tempting food. They say that if you stick to healthy eating for 3 or 4 days, the cravings for sugar go away. Until this week, I have never even made it past the first 2 days without giving up and giving in to indulging. Now, I can confirm the claim is true! Get through the first week and I promise you will see changes that will motivate you to keep going. I have had SO MUCH ENERGY in the past few days and I am determined to keep it.

Some of the initial changes I have made include:
- Switching to only whole wheat (bread, flour, etc)
- Having plenty of fruit and vegetables on hand
- ALWAYS having my water bottle
- NEVER drinking soda (or any sugar beverage for that matter)
- Portion control (wow, did I eat a lot I find myself looking for extra food to eat at the end of the day to finish my calorie goals)
- Using EVOO cooking spray rather than butter (0 calories per 1/4 sec spray)
- LOGGING every little thing I put in my mouth
- Dedicating myself to a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio 5-6 times a week

I can honestly say I feel GREAT! So many of us don't ever really think about the effects that chemicals in certain foods have not only on our bodies, but on our minds. For a while, I was wondering why I constantly felt tired, lazy, depressed, etc. By making simple changes in your diet, you will honestly find yourself happier and more optimistic than ever.

I'm so excited to continue this journey and cannot wait to start updating pictures and blogs with the positive changes I am making! Thank you, SparkPeople and everyone who gives great advice in the message boards. Also, thank you to everyone who accepts my friend requests because honestly seeing and reading your stories has given me the ability to realize what I am capable of achieving!

Feel free to friend me or become a SparkBuddy so we can all continue to motivate one another!! :)
