Feb 2021 Update
Life has been insane, and I've been struggling to maintain. That said, I'm happy to report I've kept more than 1/2 of the weight off! With all of the challenges this school year has brought - I don't have the time (or honestly the energy or desire) to log in and be active on the site regularly as my days are already spent on Zoom and teaching both in person and over a computer simultaneously. The inactivity is brutal. The last thing I want when I'm finished my school day, then 2-3 hours of work (most on a computer) after that - is to spend more time on technology - but I am mentally preparing for a re-entry to the site come summer time.
This past year has done a number on my mental and physical health, and I've fallen back into some bad habits - but I haven't thrown in the towel. I'm still hanging on by my fingernails and doing what I can to get through each day. I look forward to summer when I can focus more on me and my health...and it's comforting to know the Spark community is such a wonderful resource, and here when I'm ready, to help me reach my goals.
Thank you, Spark!

I've been on and off this site for nearly 10 years now! I know that this is where I'll find the tools and support to help me find success. There are some pretty amazing people here!

I've struggled with my weight my entire life; I've lost (and gained) 50 pounds numerous times. Over the course of the last 5 years, (my most recent journey) I have lost over 80 lbs, finally reaching a healthy weight for the first time in my married life. I tried numerous strategies: WW, Jenny Craig, Spark alone, walking, running, and 21 Day Fix/21 Day Fix Extreme. These last programs (21 DF & 21 DFX) are what helped me finally push through the final plateau and what helped me develop this into a lifestyle. I've learned that if something stops working, you need to look closely at why, and change it, or try something new! If what you're doing isn't working, something must change! Additionally, giving up isn't an option. Yes, we all slip, but forgiveness is important and the ability to move on is even more important. Though I've worked through a variety of programs to get here, Spark has been here the whole time, providing me with the consistency and support that has been so important throughout this journey. Now that I've reached this goal, no more yo-yoing for me! Now that I'm older, the weight doesn't come off like it did when I was in my 20s. So I am now working on making this a lifestyle. I know that this, too, will be challenging, but it's a challenge that I'm excited about facing!

My Goals:
I would still like to lose a few more pounds, but it will come when it comes. Now that I have reached the healthy weight goal set out for my by my doctor, the focus is on maintaining a healthy lifestyle!

My Program:
I am eating right, WATCHING PORTIONS, and keeping my body in motion! I like to run and I follow the 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme programs. (I became a Beachbody Coach for the discount on products and the support of those communities, as well.)

    Hello :)

Things are moving forward, as things always do. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but always moving forward.

It's been a rough year, as we all know much too well. Next week will mark on year since my mom passed away so that will be a hurdle to overcome. But time does heal all wounds and her loss doesn't hurt near as much as it did. After next week there will be no more "firsts". "First birthday without mom", "first 4th of July without mom", "first Thanksgiving (Christmas, etc) without mom".

I hope your year has been more on the boring "can't go out to eat, can't go do anything" side of things. Hopefully that too will pass soon.

No timetable for a settlement yet. I get two checks per month from the insurance company and my second check in January was shown as part of my permanent disability payment instead of my temporary disability. Now I am just waiting for them to send me an actual offer sheet to settle. My last Dr.'s appointment was on Jan, 13th, that was to fill out the "permanent and stationary" records. Turns out I achieved 6% permanent disability, couple that with the 15% perm. disability from my back injury in '94 and I'm almost 1/4 worthless!! I feel better, the shoulder doesn't hurt (much) when I'm not using it but it still hurts in many movements and occasionally it just decides to not cooperate. This could be because the insurance company was dragging their feet and I went 7 months before I finally had surgery. My rotator cuff was almost 3/4 torn from the head of the humerus and had to be trimmed down and the bone smoothed out before using screws and sutures to re-attach everything.

Your sling sounds like mine. Mine came in a big black carrying case with different attachments. It was a large brace from just below my shoulder to my wrist. There are velcro straps to hold it to my upper arm and forearm. There was a bolster that went between my arm and my side to keep the arm in the proper location and the bolster had a strap that went around my body to hold the whole thing in place. Since it was my left arm, it was a real bitch getting my Starbucks in the drive through!!
