hi everybody! thanks for stopping by my page. i'm so glad to finally be on the right track and i'm loving spark for helping me get here.

i have two wonderful children : skye and micah, for whom i'd like to stay healthy and active. i have always struggled with my weight, off and on. when skye was little, i did a program called weight loss forever (obviously a bit of misnomer...) and got down to a size 10 or 11 which was great for my height of 5'10" and my frame. the wlf diet is high protein, very very low carb, lots of water, and has various pills and supplements to make it work. i lost around35 or 40 lbs and actually kept about 25 of it off until my second pregnancy.

when i was pregnant the first time, i gained 12 lbs, she weighed 9, and i weighed less after she was born than before i was pregnant! the second time, i gained 70lbs! i told my ob that i was sick all the time and wasn't eating, but he didn't believe me. he said overweight women always thought they weren't really eating very much! so, like a dumba** i believed him! he was the dr, who was i to argue, right? a month before my son was born, my feet and ankles swelled to over twice their size! i couldn't wear shoes or socks (not good in nov/dec) and the legs of my jeans were too tight.

the dr told me that i was retaining some water and that when the baby was born, it would all go away. in the meantime he told me to drink more water. well, that turned out to be REALLY REALLY bad advice!

so i went into the hospital a week early on dec 21st and had micah, a 10lb 4oz baby, and didn't lose any of the water. we went home on Christmas eve and on Christmas night, we were back in the hospital because i thought i was having an athsma attack. well, suprise, it was actually heart failure! that's why i was retaining all the water. what i thought was my athsma acting up was my lungs filling w/ water.

so, after another week or so in the hospital, i was down over 50lbs of fluid! talk about magic...

and this very long story is basically to justify to myself why i have now gained SO MUCH WEIGHT! i couldn't go back to work until i was sure my heart would recover which took a couple of years. i became, for the first time ever, a stay at home mom. i was also forbidden to drink very much fluid, to keep from swelling back up. and no strenous activities either. so the upshot of that is that i spent a couple of years not drinking enough water, not getting enough exersice, and having way too much access to the kitchen!

so now here i am, trying to get back to what i consider an acceptable weight. spark is great because it has helped me to realize how much i was eating and that my habits were awful! so now i'm exersicing, eating better (and less) and getting into some good habits to replace the bad ones.

thanks to everybody for all the support and info! i know we can all make it together!
