My newest obsession is biking! It doesn't even feel like exercise! I get on my bike and pedal away. I love the quiet. I can think, pray, plan, sing, and listen to the sounds around me. Sometimes I have to push a little harder to get up a hill, but the ride down is exhilarating! (It's kind of like life, don't you think?) My advice: find an exercise that you love! Your body will say 'Thank you' and your friends will say 'You look great! What've you been doing?' ๐Ÿ˜Š

My Goals:
1st goal = get a healthy BMI score. Met goal.
2nd goal = 30 pounds. Met goal.
3rd goal = Let's make that 40! (When I set my second goal, I didn't really think it was possible! As the pounds came off, I knew I would make it, and I decided to add this goal!)
4th goal = Maintain!

My Program:
I'm hooked on SP. I enter my nutritional information faithfully. I look at my numbers for the day, before I make my dinner. This helps me to decide portion size and numbers of servings. I try to fill my plate with veggies, and have only one serving of meat.

Personal Information:
My father had a stoke and he has diabetes. My mother has a pace maker. I cannot change my family history, but I can live a healthy lifestyle, so that I reduce the health risks for myself, my husband, and my children. They are my motivation!

Other Information:
"It is not enough to stare up the steps, we must step up the stairs!" -- Vance Harner
As the saying goes -- you are what you eat! As I make healthy choices, the food tastes great, I feel great, and it's alot easier to step up the stairs!

Aw, thanks for the Spark Goodie, Tammie! Things are getting a little better, phew! :) Also, I totally didn't see the note about your husband until just now -- sorry I didn't acknowledge that sooner! That's great that he's doing better, even if some of it is by osmosis! :) My paternal side of the family (my dad, and everyone related to him) has a very consistent set of health risks (including diabetes), and similar to what you wrote, most everyone has chosen a lifestyle to fight back those risks and yet we all retain the same round, hobbit-like body shape! We are all living proof that you can get tons of exercise (my 70 year old, spherical dad is a lifelong jogger!), make really healthy food choices, create great bp and heart rates, and still be round. Sigh. emoticon

Thanks for your question, Puffpastry! My husband was hospitalized for four days last May, due to an irregular heartbeat. While he was there, they spoke to him about getting his diabetes under control, and they put him on a 1800 calories a day diet. That's when I knew I had to do something to help him. I went on line and looked at WW, Nutri-System, and then I found SP! I decided to try it out for a few days first, and I was hooked. Then I introduced it to my husband, but he didn't join me. So Plan B: I decided that I would stick with the program. From then on, only healthy meals and snacks in our home. While he's on "my watch" he has to make good, healthy choices! The good news / bad news: he hasn't lost any weight, but his blood work and other numbers are better than they've ever been! I am hoping that one day it will click, and he'll start making good choices AND try exercising, too! In the meantime, I'll keep setting the good example! : )

So, Tamatos, I have a question. Your little intro section talks about your husband having a heart attack...how is HE now? Did he start doing SP also, or what did he do in the way of lifestyle and health changes? Inquiring minds want to know! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Awesome job on the bike riding! I had to laugh, because I do the same thing when conquering a hill on my runs. I just put my head down and the road looks flat. It's amazing how psychologically defeating our minds can be when we look at those hills. Let me know if you are going to try the 40/30/30. I found it nearly impossible and know it is not something I could incorporate into a permanent lifestyle change for me. I want to reach my goal in a manner that I can maintain for life.
