I am a 62 year old nurse working full time and hope to continue doing so for quite a few more years. That is part of my motivation to regain my health - that and hoping to be an active part of my 16 month old grandson's life for many, many years! I've been yo-yoing since I was 13 years old, but have been on a slow (but relatively steady) path in the right direction since 2006. I love to do any kind of needlework, sewing and crafts as well as travel and read.

My Goals:
My main goal is to regain my health.

My Program:
I am diabetic and have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. After doing extensive reading and trial and error over recent years, I have found that a vegan diet helps me achieve excellent blood work goals. I also feel better and lose weight when i combine it with weight training 3 days a week, and cardio 5 days a week.

Personal Information:
I'm Karen and live in the midwest and am 62 years old. My first grandchild was born in July 2010 and I want to be there as he grows. I'm a nurse and work full time. Since there is such a severe nursing shortage, I've decided that I would like to be one of the people taking care of others as I age rather than risking not having anyone to take care of me. As long as I stay intact, I'm hoping to work as long as I can, at least to 70 years old. I was my mother's primary caregiver in my home for her final years until she died in August, 2010 at 90 years old. I held my grandson for the first time the same day she died. I do miss her but I am glad she is no longer suffering.

Other Information:
Since I live nearly 35 miles from work, I totally enjoy books on CD that I get from the library. I've recently discovered the author Clive Cussler. I also enjoy listening to non fiction books.

Hi Susie, Welcome to the Fun Loving Over 60 team!! It is a great bunch and several of us have traveled and met face to face.

I see from reading your Sparkpage that you have much in common with several on the team. It is a stitching, traveling and reading group.

Several of us are also from the Midwest and in fact from IL. We travel often through St. Louis to get to Big Cedar Wilderness Club just south of Branson. DH grew up a Cardinal fan so he has passed it on to our sons. Another reason to head to St. Louis.

Hope to get to know you. Welcome to Spark and the healthy lifestyle journey. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the great advice to "savor the moment" and make memories. It was a reminder I needed to hear.

After looking at your SP page I saw we had something in common - I was the caregiver for my mother in my home (with help so I could work part time) the last year of her life. That and the birth of my two grandsons is what is spurrng me on to get healthy.
